What can you expect when enrolling in the Advanced Diploma in Trichology? By studying Trichology at Lanette Medical, students gain the in-depth knowledge required to correctly diagnose and treat hair loss and scalp disorders.
Upon completion of this course, you will become a certified trichologist and can begin practising professionally. Our trainers are recognised trichologists and affiliated with the International Association of Trichologists.
This course includes both theory and practice sessions, making it dynamic and engaging. It is also the first trichology course offered in the Netherlands, regularly updated with the latest scientific insights.
The training consists of 13 modules, combining theory and hands-on practice. After completing this training, you will be able to set up your own trichology practice or expand your current practice with trichological consultations and treatments.
Course Modules
Module 1 – Introduction to Trichology
Introduction to the course and the foundations of trichology.
Module 2 – Body Systems
Focus on anatomy, functions, and the relation of key body systems (circulatory, nervous, endocrine, immune) to hair and scalp health.
Module 3 – Chemistry of Hair
Theory: Matter, energy, atoms, bonds, molecules, pH relevance, and hair chemistry.
Practice: Simple experiments to understand hair chemistry in depth.
Module 4 – Hair Structure
Detailed anatomy and physiology of hair and scalp, keratinisation and pigmentation processes, supporting systems like glands, circulation, and nerves.
Module 5 – The Scalp
Focus on scalp structures, functions, and their interrelation with hair.
Module 6 – Microscopy and Trichoscope
Theory: Principles of light, magnification, and diagnostic advantages of microscopes and trichoscopes.
Practice: Preparing and analysing scalp samples, trichoscope examinations.
Module 7 – Nutrition and Diagnosis
Theory: Nutritional imbalances and their effects on hair health. Diagnostic systems such as bioresonance and elemental hair analysis.
Practice: Conducting bioresonance scans and hair analysis.
Module 8 – The Consultation Process
Theory: Intake, classification of symptoms, family/personal history, congenital hair shaft issues, hair colour problems.
Practice: Consultation roleplay using intake forms.
Module 9 – Hair Loss (Alopecia)
Theory: Causes, types, diagnosis, and treatment of alopecia. Classification of conditions by scalp distribution and degree of loss.
Practice: Performing trichological examinations and assessments.
Module 10 – Scalp Disorders
Theory: Conditions including itching, flaking, seborrhoea, glandular disorders, inflammatory eruptions, bacterial and fungal infections.
Practice: Techniques such as detox and oxygen scalp treatments.
Module 11 – Trichological Preparations
Discussion of shampoos, amino acids, steroids, oral contraceptives, and their impact on scalp health and hair loss.
Module 12 – Hair & Scalp Therapies
Practice: Hands-on training with treatment techniques for hair and scalp conditions.
Module 13 – Organisation of a Trichology Clinic
Theory: Guidelines for setting up and managing a trichology clinic, including ethics, standards, and professional relations.
